It’s a cute pink shirt — and it has a spaceship on it.
Sure, girls like kitties and princesses, but they also like rockets, trains and dinosaurs.
Two Shoreline moms, Jennifer Muhm and Malorie Catchpole (wife of Herald reporter Dan Catchpole), had a hard time finding clothes for their daughters that celebrate science.
So, they created their own line, buddingSTEM.
The premise: We tell our girls they can do anything. Be anything. Why not let them express their scientific interests in apparel?
The initial goal of their Kickstarter campaign was to raise $45,000. After it gained national attention, more than $70,000 was pledged from about 1,400 backers, including adults who wanted T-shirts in grown-up sizes.
The moms are finalists for GeekWire’s “Geek of the Year” award, up against the likes of Paul Allen. To vote, go to www.geekwire.com.
