Candidates thinking about running for office can get information at a candidate workshop Tuesday in Everett.
The workshop sponsored by the Snohomish County Elections division of the county auditor’s office is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Tuesday on the Snohomish County Campus.
County elections manager Garth Fell says that the workshop will give prospective candidates key information about running for office, including requirements, timelines and resources.
“With 194 local-government offices from 73 jurisdictions featured in this year’s elections, we are anticipating a number of new candidates,” Fell said recently. “We recognize that the administrative and reporting requirements involved with running for office can be intimidating. The candidate workshop is a great opportunity for prospective candidates and campaign staff to learn about the requirements and ask questions.”
Elections staff members expect to discuss the processes for filing for office and submitting local voters’ pamphlet information.
Representatives from the state Public Disclosure Commission and local media will be on hand to answer questions, as will some public office holders.
The event will be in Public Meeting Room #1 of the Robert J. Drewel Building on the Snohomish County Campus, 3000 Rockefeller Avenue, Everett.
Candidate filing begins May 11 and continues through May 15.
Most offices on 2015 ballots are non-partisan, meaning that they will be on the August primary ballot only if three or more candidates file. The top two primary vote getters advance to the November general election. If only one or two candidates file for a non-partisan office it appears only on the November ballot.
The only partisan office in south Snohomish County is the County Council District 3 position that Democrat Stephanie Wright holds. All partisan offices appear on both the primary and general election ballots.
