Nelson Cruz of the Seattle Mariners has been named the American League Player of the Week for April 13-19. It is the first Player of the Week honor of the season for Cruz, and the fourth of his career.
Cruz hit .500 (12-for-24) with six home runs, 10 RBI, seven runs scored and a 1.806 OPS in six games vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers and Texas Rangers. He recorded a hit in each of his six games and reached base via hit or walk 15 times during that span.
For the week, Cruz led the majors in home runs, RBI, a slugging percentage (1.250), OPS and total bases (30).
