SEATTLE — City council members have finalized the hiring of Seattle Fire Chief Harold Scroggins.
The council voted unanimously for Scroggins’ appointment Monday afternoon.
Seattlepi.com reported that Scroggins started with the department three weeks ago after being selected by a search committee and nominated by Mayor Ed Murray in February.
He replaces interim fire chief Michael Walsh and former chief Gregory Dean, who was with the department for more than five years. Scroggins faces challenges with recruitment in a short-staffed department that is about to see several retirements as well.
Scroggins came to Seattle after spending 25 years as chief of a California fire department and five years as an Air Force firefighter.
