EVERETT — A local florist shop that was gutted by arson in 2011 was hit by a burglar Sunday morning.
The damage was estimated at about $1,000, plus a broken window, Everett Floral owner Ernie Frederickson said Tuesday.
Surveillance camera footage showed the break-in happened about 11 a.m.Sunday at the shop at 4522 Evergreen Way, he said. Everett police are investigating.
It will take days to replace the window and the broken cash register, Frederickson said. The shop is closed on Sundays, but a wholesale delivery driver saw the damage and called it in. The owners then shared the surveillance footage with detectives.
“Everything looked like it was neatly tipped over, but after reviewing the footage, it showed (the suspect) trying to break open the drawers with a screwdriver,” Frederickson said. “When he couldn’t do that, he just started yanking on them. The monitors and everything went flying.”
Police told him it appeared the suspect, who wore a purple hooded sweatshirt, used a chisel or other tool to break the window.
Ernie and Cindy Frederickson have owned the shop for nearly 27 years. In 2011, a 15-year-old boy was sentenced to a month in juvenile detention for the arson that caused significant damage.
“We’re all good,” Ernie Frederickson said. “It’s just another hit for Everett Floral.”
