Regarding the issue of moving the elephants from the Woodland Park Zoo to the Oklahoma Zoo. (Saturday article, “Storm diverts Oklahoma-bound Seattle elephants to San Diego.” I have a concern with our zoo’s common sense.
First let me say that I have no allegiance to whether they move the elephants to a zoo or a habitat. However, what the heck were the Seattle guys thinking, moving those boxed up elephants on a 2,000-mile trip, knowing there was cold and inclement weather ahead in their route? Plus the 20-year anniversary of the Oklahoma bombing, which just makes it a more complicated time.
Now they have diverted to San Diego to put more stress and travel time on these old girls. I think they could have thought this out a little better. Poor timing. Was there something underlying that pushed them to leave when they did?
My best wishes for Bamboo and Chai at the new zoo and hope they make it in good health with a long life.
