TACOMA — Pierce County’s $127 million headquarters will be in the hands of the public following a final approval from the County Council.
The News Tribune reports the Council approved a resolution to create a measure for the Aug. 4 ballot asking voters whether the county should finance a new General Services Building. The resolution will have a final reading and vote next week.
The project has been on the table for two years and more than one resident has filed a lawsuit to challenge it and force a vote. At one point, the county prosecutor’s office sued to block the referendum. The county’s suit has since been withdrawn.
A second suit calling for a referendum vote has a hearing set for May 18 in Pierce County Superior Court.
