As is always the case immediately following the draft, teams are now scrambling to sign the top undrafted players. For the Seahawks, that will include one of the cooler stories of this draft weekend, 34-year-old long snapper Nate Boyer.
Boyer announced on the NFL Network that he was offered a contract by Seattle, and if you’re wondering why a long snapper was on the NFL Network right after the draft, that’s because Boyer has a great story, having served as a Green Beret in in Iraq and Afghanistan before enrolling at Texas when he was 29, then deciding to try out for the football team, eventually winning the long-snapper job. In all reality, Boyer will be a pretty big long shot with Seattle having just re-signed long snapper Clint Gresham, who has been very reliable for the Seahawks since 2010, but however things turn out, Boyer will be the feel-good story of Seattle’s rookie minicamp.
