PORT ORCHARD — Two men who were convicted of killing their infant daughters in separate cases last year have been sentenced to prison.
The Kitsap Sun reportedthat one man said he would accept any sentence given during the Friday hearing and the other maintained his innocence.
Both Christopher Michael Mayo and Hector Saavedra Ruiz were convicted of second-degree murder.
Mayo pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 15 years. Saavedra Ruiz was found guilty at trial and received an 18 year term.
Before sentencing, Mayo said he had difficulty controlling his anger and deserved to be punished for the death of AnnaBelle.
Saavedra Ruiz said he was alone with 5-month-old Natalie for an hour after smoking meth. He said when he noticed the baby wasn’t breathing he tried to give her CPR. He said he never harmed the child.
Judge Kevin Hull said he respected the jury’s verdict and sentenced him to the maximum.
