FSU’s recent run of dominance on the football field has trickled into to the NFL draft, exhibited by the Seminoles setting the modern record for most draft picks in a three-year span.
Bobby Hart was taken by the New York Giants in the seventh round of the 2015 NFL Draft, giving the Seminoles a record 29 draft picks in a three-year span. FSU, entering this year’s draft, needed10 players to be selected in order to tie the record of 28 draftees in three years. Miami (2002-04) and Southern California (2008-10) were the previous record holders.
The Seminoles produced six picks — QB Jameis Winston (Round 1, No. 1 pick overall), OL Cam Erving (1.19), DL Mario Edwards Jr. (2. 35), DL Eddie Goldman (2.39), CB Ronald Darby (2.50) and CB P.J. Williams (3.78) — in the first three rounds. Because of that, they were in a good position to tie or break the record heading into the final day of the draft.
WR Rashad Greene was taken in the fifth round, 139th overall, by the Jacksonville Jaguars. RB Karlos Williams went later in the round, getting picked up by the Buffalo Bills with the 155th overall pick.
Buffalo, which had drafted four FSU players in the previous two years and Darby earlier in the draft, struck again when it selected TE Nick O’Leary with pick 194 in the sixth round. With that, FSU tied the record for selections in three years.
Hart was FSU’s 11th pick of the draft, the most any school has produced in this draft class. That is also a school record.
FSU has gone 39-3 the past three seasons, playing a large role in why NFL teams have coveted so many Seminoles.
