What mom really wants on her day: Art, wine and a show

Mom loves your artwork.

Really. She does.

Even the drawing you made where people look like trees, and especially those flowers with smiley faces.

That’s why your masterpieces from 30 years ago still cover her fridge.

Kiddos, it’s time to give her the gift of art made by someone else.

Everett’s Schack Art Center, 2921 Hoyt Ave., has jewelry, glass, pottery and paintings by more than 200 local artists.

Maybe you should let her pick out what she wants.

The Schack also has art lessons for you. Or her.

Oh, and there’s a chocolate shop across the street.

Oh Sweet Chocolate, 2918 Hoyt Ave., has truffles that will melt her heart.

But what Mom really needs, after putting up with you these years, is a drink.

Port Gardner Bay Winery can fix you up.

Everett’s boutique winery, 2802 Rockefeller Ave., has bottles of whites for $15 or $19 for reds. The tasting room is open Thursday through Saturday.

They also have wine-making classes. That would make a great gift, so Mom can learn how to make her own merlot.

Does your mom prefer beer? Get her a growler of ale at Brews Almighty, 3011 Grand Ave., or head to Scuttlebutt, 1205 Craftsman Way, for a 22 of Homeport Blonde.

Finally, here’s something guaranteed to make you the favorite child. Take Mom to a show. “No Way to Treat a Lady” is back on the Village Theatre stage at Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave.

The story involves two men with mommy issues. One is a police detective who is living at home with his mother and the other is a two-bit actor trying to win the recognition that eluded him during his famous mother’s life. He decides to murder his way into the limelight.

It’s a perfect mother-son outing. Shows are at 2 and 7 p.m. on Mother’s Day.
