Washington Gov. Jay Inslee clutched a hot dog Wednesday to symbolize his appreciation of state workers.
“It’s all about the hot dog,” Inslee said to a crowd of workers at an event marking Public Service Recognition Week.
“Here’s the reason why. The buns come from Washington wheat which is supported by employees of the Department of Agriculture. The mustard is sold in part because of the employees of the Department of Commerce which helps to sell our great products around the world. And the hot dog itself is delivered by trucks that drive on roads that are maintained by the great employees of the Department of Transportation.
“Let us just say we have Washington hot dogs because we have great Washington public servants,” he said.
He also praised them for helping the state government run more efficiently through use of Lean management strategies and said they deserve a cost of living adjustment (COLA) negotiated through collective bargaining.
“Any group of public servants that help make sure Washingtonians have healthy, safe hot dogs and the best Lean management programs in the United States deserve at least a 4.8 percent COLA in their wages this year,” he concluded.
Inslee left before I could see if he actually ate the hot dog.
