Girls lacrosse: Snohomish 19, Bellarmine Prep 12

TACOMA — Hannah Graves led all scorers with six goals as Snohomish advanced to the semifinals of the Washington Lacrosse Girls State Championship Tournament for the third consecutive year, handling Bellarmine Prep 19-12 on the Lions’ home field on Monday in Tacoma.

With the state’s No. 2 scorer Hannah Graves at the helm, the combined Snohomish, Glacier Peak high school squad quickly to command of the game building a 10-4 lead at the half, then cruising through the second half as coach Christine Ryan provided important post-season playing experience for a number of her younger players.

“We were pretty comfortable the entire game,” Ryan said.

While Ryan’s offense was in full swing, midfielder Natalie Church was dominating the draws.

“She really stepped up the on the draw controls,” Ryan said. “Not only was she winning it to herself but she was winning it to our players. It was huge for your attack.”

Church finished the night with six draw controls along with three goals and an assist, while Graves had six points, all on goals. Graves has 59 goals and 13 assists for 72 points this season.

The Lions were led by Elizabeth Cranstoun with four goals and two assists, while the state’s No. 8 goal scorer Alyssa Johnson was held to just two goals. She now has 50 goals on the season along with 23 assists for 73 points.

Snohomish, which dropped Mercer Island 9-8 in Thursday’s opening round playoff matchup to advance into the quarterfinals, now moves on to faces the winner of Monday’s Lake Sammamish, Issaquah quarterfinal on Wednesday for the right to advance to the state title game on Friday.

“We were happy with the draw tonight,” said Ryan who hadn’t faced Bellarmine Prep all season. “We knew if we played our game we would be in good shape.”
