Potential challengers for all of the Lynnwood City Council positions on this year’s ballots emerged as candidate filing week opened Monday.
Councilman Van AuBuchon got a challenge from former Lynnwood Police Spokeswoman Shannon Sessions, Councilman Sid Roberts got a challenge from Lynnwood Planning Commission member George Hurst, and Councilman Loren Simmonds got a challenge from Shirley Sutton, who lost a Council race in the 2013 primary before an unsuccessful general-election write-in campaign for another position.
Another newcomer, Chris Frizzell, has filed as a candidate for the position that Councilman Benjamin Goodwin now holds. Goodwin hasn’t declared whether he plans to run.
Filing continues through Friday at 4 p.m.
Any position with three or more candidates appears on the August primary ballot with the top two candidates advancing to the November general election ballot. Positions with only one or two candidates appear only on the November ballot.
