MARYSVILLE — Marysville Pilchuck ended Oak Harbor’s season Wednesday and advanced to play Ferndale Saturday in a loser-out, winner-to-state 3A District Tournament game at Everett Memorial Stadium.
Tristan Southard — who was 1-for-3 with two runs scored — led the Tomahawks offense with a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Teammate Nick Anderson added a double and an RBI on a 2-for-4 night at the plate.
Tyler Snavely hit a double for Oak Harbor.
“We played a great ball game tonight,” Marysville Pilchuck head coach Kurt Koshelnik said. “The weather conditions weren’t ideal but we stayed focused on what we needed to do and got it done.”
Koshelnik said he and his players are unfamiliar with Ferndale and have not had a chance to watch any of its games this season, but are up for the challenge,
“It’s a battle of the unknowns,” Koshelnik said. “We have seen some of (Ferndale’s) scores but the key is to stay focused on us and what we’re capable of.”
Koshelnik said the fact that it is a loser-out game adds a little extra pressure for his players, especially the seniors, but is not something they will shy away from.
“It might be the last chance for our seniors to represent their school but it’s nothing that will seize us up,” he said. “We are ready for the challenge.”
