BELLINGHAM — South Whidbey relied on solid defense to hold CPC-Bothell to just a run in its victory over the Eagles in the winner-to-state game Saturday.
Ricky Muzzy recorded a save on the mound and was 1-for-2 with two runs scored at the plate for the Falcons, another solid outing in addition to his 2-for-2 performance in the early game against University Prep.
Muzzy came into the game with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh, and got a strikeout and a pop-up to end the game and secure a spot for the Falcons in the state tournament.
CPC-Bothell’s David McLaurin hit the only double of the contest. The Eagles’ season ends at 14-10.
South Whidbey plays at 10 a.m. Saturday against district three’s number one seed in the first round of state.
