David Shields

7 p.m. Dec. 8, Third Place Books

“War Is Beautiful: The New York Times Pictorial Guide to the Glamour of Armed Conflict” is Shields’ analysis of more than a decade’s worth of front-page war photographs from the newspaper. His conclusion: The photo-editing process of the paper of record, by way of “pretty, heroic and lavishly aesthetic image selection,” pulls the wool over the eyes of its readers. Shields wants the reader to face not only the media’s complicity in dubious and catastrophic military campaigns, but our own as well. The store is located at 17171 Bothell Way NE, Lake Forest Park.

Jayne Ann Krentz

7 p.m. Dec. 9, Third Place Books

No one does romantic suspense better than Jayne Ann Krentz. Now, the bestselling author delivers “Secret Sisters,” a novel that twists and turns into a read that will leave fans breathless. Madeline and Daphne were once as close as sisters until a secret tore them apart. Now it might take them to their graves. The store is located at 17171 Bothell Way NE, Lake Forest Park.

Kathleen Thompson

6:30 p.m. Dec. 11, Third Place Books
