The dedication ceremony planned for Wednesday at Gaffney Field in north Everett has been postponed.
Hall-of-Fame baseball player Cal Ripken Jr. was scheduled to attend the ceremony, but had to reschedule, said Bill Tsoukalas, executive director of the Boys &Girls Clubs of Snohomish County.
Gaffney Field, a Boys &Girls Club facility that is home to the Everett Community College softball team, underwent a $1 million renovation last fall using funds provided by Everett CC, Snohomish County and the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation.
The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation was formed in 2001 by Cal Ripken Jr. and his brother Billy to honor their father, the former manager of the Baltimore Orioles. The foundation refurbishes baseball and softball fields around the nation.
A new date for the dedication ceremony has not been set.
Cal Ripken Jr. “will be here,” Tsoukalas said. “We’re going to wait and do the dedication when he’s available.”
