Seattle Sounders forward Chad Barrett has been voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week for Week 11 of the 2015 MLS season.
Barrett scored a pair of goals Saturday in the Sounders’ 2-0 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps.
With starting striker Obafemi Martins sidelined by an injury, Seattle coach Sigi Schmid tabbed Barrett to start alongside Clint Dempsey. Making just his second start of the season, the 30-year-old Barrett wasted no time making his presence felt. In the fifth minute, he sliced through a pair of Vancouver defenders, chased down a perfectly weighted through ball from Dempsey, and flicked a right-footed redirection past David Ousted to give Seattle a 1-0 lead.
Then, in the 38th minute, Barrett slipped behind Vancouver’s backline and smashed a left-footed volley into the far corner off a perfect feed from Marco Pappa.
