MOUNT VERNON — A 20-year-old Washington man who pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide in a May 2014 head-on collision that killed three people has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The Skagit Valley Herald reported that Alfredo Navarro III, of Mount Vernon, entered his pleas and was sentenced Wednesday in Skagit County Superior Court. He had been due to go on trial in six days. Navarro has been jailed on $1 million bail for most of the past year.
Prosecutors said he was drunk and speeding last May 23 on Highway 20 east of Sedro-Woolley when his car collided with a sedan driven by Frederick Brand, 65, of Concrete. Brand died en route to a hospital.
Two of Navarro’s passengers, Nicole Washington, 23, of Sedro-Woolley and Megan Brown, 21, of Bellingham, died at the scene.
A third passenger was critically injured, as was Navarro.
