MONROE — Lake Stevens defeated Monroe 4-3 in a loser-out game of the 4A District 1 Tournament on Thursday.
The Vikings were led by Payton Beaver, who batted 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored. Freshman Sara Johnson also pitched a complete game, giving up seven hits.
“(Payton) had a great day at the plate and I thought Sara Johnson threw a great game,” Lake Stevens head coach Sarah Hirsch said.
The victory sets up a third matchup this season with Snohomish for the district’s second and final berth to the state tournament. The two teams have split their earlier meetings.
The game begins at 4 p.m. on Friday at Sky River Park.
