Ted Hammond (Shorecrest) pitched three scoreless innings of relief — earning his third save — to help the Redhawks advance to the championship round of the WAC Tournament and move them a win away from an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
The Redhawks will play the winner of Sacramento State-Bakersfield at 7 p.m. Saturday night with a chance to wrap up the tourney title.
Lewis-Clark State 6, Davenport (Mich.) 2
Max Whitt (Granite Falls, Everett Community College) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored to help the Warriors win their first game at the NAIA World Series. LC State is in search of its 17th NAIA national championship, which would extend its own national record.
Washington 6, Utah 2
Alex Schmidt (Kamiak) went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, and Brandon Choate (Mountlake Terrace) tied a school record by making his 33rd appearance for the Huskies, all in relief. Choate worked 0.1 innings and allowed a hit and a walk.
