Well, it turns out we didn’t get an Auston Matthews announcement this week as many expected. But while we await the news on a potential future Everett player, we have some fun news about a former Everett player as Kellan Tochkin was named the new coach of the Jr. Silvertips 16U AAA team.
Tochkin, from, Abbotsford, B.C., was Everett’s first-round pick in the 2006 bantam draft. The crafty winger played in 185 games for the Tips from 2006-11, tallying 65 goals and 113 assists. He’s played professionally the past three seasons. This season he had five goals and seven assists in 20 games between the Missouri Mavericks and Elmira Jackals.
Tochkin takes over for Nick Fouts, who guided the Jr. Silvertips during their inaugural season in 2014-15. The Jr. Silvertips had a solid first season, finishing 30-29 and winning the Abbotsford Memorial Tournament. Among the players on the 2014-15 teams were Silvertips draft picks Wyatte Wylie and Brendan Studioso and Everett list player Sean Mallonee.
