SEATTLE — The Seattle Police Department says an officer has been placed on leave pending administrative and criminal investigations into a 2010 use of force incident.
The department said Friday evening that the incident happened in November 2010, when officers were involved in an altercation after responding to a report of a disturbance at a restaurant in the Georgetown neighborhood. The police department did not identify the officer.
The Seattle Times reports the officer was one of three who responded to a call where physical confrontations erupted with four people who were working on an after-hours cleaning crew.
In a statement, police said the case was recently brought to the attention of department leaders after the city attorney’s office reviewed police-car video. After learning of the incident, Police Chief Kathleen O’Toole notified the Office of Professional Responsibility and consulted with federal and county law enforcement.
Seattle police say they and the FBI are partnering on the criminal investigation.
