As a follow-up to letters regarding the stoplight at the top of the hill after leaving the trestle and entering Hewitt. It is my understanding that when Lake Stevens incorporated this area from the county, it also acquired the developments that were on the books. Unfortunately, it appears that Lake Stevens just “rubber stamped” the plans without analyzing the safety issues surrounding the placement of this stoplight.
Lake Stevens has been forewarned of this dangerous situation which could occur with cars coming up the hill, having to stop, and then having to gain traction in slippery conditions. Cars could slide back into a following car or be forced to make a U-turn to go back down the hill and proceed up Highway 204.
Because of other letters and calls to the Lakes Stevens administration offices, the city of Lake Stevens may be open to nasty litigation.
I hope this issue will be addressed before the lights are activated. The problem may not be as serious at this time of year, but nasty weather is coming in the fall and winter.
