Well, it’s 5 p.m. and there’s been nothing from the Tips with regards to Auston Matthews. Everett general manager Garry Davidson said Wednesday morning that Matthews would make his decision between Everett and Switzerland either Wednesday or Thursday, but we haven’t heard from Matthews’ camp today. Attempts to contact Davidson on Thursday went unanswered.
What we did get Thursday was this tweet from Sportsnet reporter Damien Cox:
Almost 100% Auston Matthews is headed to Europe, not WHL or NCAA.. News is teams from Sweden, Finland may have joined Zurich in the bidding.
— Damien Cox (@DamoSpin) May 28, 2015
This generated a lot of traffic, including a story or two that grabbed the ball and ran with the story that Matthews had committed to playing in Europe next season. However, we also got this tweet from The Hockey News’ Ryan Kennedy shortly after:
Auston Matthews update is that there is no update – nothing has been decided yet as to where he will play next season.

Where that leaves us now is anyone’s guess. Cox’s tweet suggests there are now more European leagues in play beyond Switzerland. But all we really know is we apparently have to wait at least one more day to learn Matthews’ destination.
