Klay Thompson is “doing much better after a good night’s sleep,” said the Warriors guard’s father Mychal Thompson on Thursday morning during his regular guest spot on ESPN Radio in Los Angeles.
The younger Thompson took a knee to the side of the head from Houston’s Trevor Ariza in the fourth quarter of the Warriors’ 104-90 victory over the Rockets that put Golden State in the NBA Finals. He did not return to the game.
“He was still a little woozy after the game but he was composed, and caught up in the adrenalin, caught up in the moment,” said Thompson’s father. “But he was very cognizant of what was going on around him. He’s OK.”
Thompson told Yahoo Sports after the game that his son had vomited and was suffering from possible concussion symptoms. He also received three stitches in his right ear from a laceration.
“The doctors are going to continue to evaluate him over the coming days and he’ll through the protocols he has to go through,” he said on the radio show. “A break in the schedule is a good thing for him and the Warriors right now.”
Earlier Thursday, on ESPN’s Mike &Mike Show, Thompson said he had to drive his son home from Oracle Arena.
“He wasn’t able to drive himself home,” he said. “So after I drove him home, he threw up a couple of times and he started feeling a lot better. When I left his house, he was resting comfortably. After a couple of days off, he seems to thinks he’ll be fine, and the trainers and doctors that I talked to said he just needs a couple of days to shut it down and pick things back up in 2-3 days. He has plenty of time to get ready for (next) Thursday.”
