EVERETT — The Everett Silvertips liked what they saw from assistant coach Brennan Sonne last season, so they’re bringing him back for another go-around.
The Tips announced Wednesday they’ve signed Sonne to a contract extension that runs through the upcoming 2015-16 season.
Sonne, a 28-year-old from Maple Ridge, B.C., spent parts of three seasons as a player with the Tips from 2005-07. He was hired as an assistant by Everett last August to fill the void left when assistant coach Mark LeRose stepped down to become the general manager of the United States Hockey League’s Sioux City Musketeers.
Sonne, in his first foray into coaching at the junior level, provided a dose of youthful enthusiasm to Everett’s coaching staff as the Tips went on to claim their first U.S. Division title since 2007, when Sonne was a player with the team.
“Brennan did a terrific job as a first-year coach,” Everett general manager Garry Davidson said in a press release. “He managed the learning curve to become a valuable member of our staff and I have no doubt he’ll continue to carve out a bigger and more defined role in the organization next year. I really like his work ethic and professionalism, plus I appreciate that he’s willing to ask questions to get a better handle on anything he’s unsure about. He has a bright coaching future ahead of him.”
