SEATAC — The King County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy was trapped between two patrol vehicles when his partner shot and wounded a 17-year-old suspected of stealing a car.
Sgt. Stan Seo says the deputies had pursued the car, a Lexus reported stolen from Federal Way, into a dead end at an apartment complex in SeaTac Thursday night.
Seo said Friday the teen ignored orders to surrender, put the car in reverse and rammed a patrol car, trapping the deputy between his car, his open driver-side door and another patrol vehicle. The deputy was not hurt.
The deputy’s 41-year-old partner, who is an 11-year veteran, shot the suspect in the head. He was placed on leave during the investigation, as is standard.
The teen was taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The teen is black and the deputy white, but officials do not believe race was relevant.
