In regard to the Cruzin’ to Colby Car Show held on Memorial Day weekend in Everett. This show is organized and hosted by the Seattle Rod-Tiques. I have attended several of these events over the past 10 years. This is the first time that I have attended an open car show where parking spots were saved for cars that arrived later in the day. An open show is always first come, first parked. There were numerous parking spots saved, and in particular a row with three lawn chairs holding parking spots by show participants on Colby Avenue.
I approached a group of seven guys and asked why were they saving parking spots and basically they told me with rude behavior because they could and to go away and have a nice day. When the Seattle Rod-Tiques members who parked cars were approached and asked why spots were being saved, we were told no spots were to be saved other than spots for the parking attendant. The parking attendant in our area did not do his job and assist in this problem. First come, first parked was the rule.
When this violation of the parking rules was pointed out the host club did nothing to enforce the rules and made it a point to ignore the complaints. This complaint was raised by several individuals who were attending the show including one of Everett police officers providing security for the event. We were told by the police officer nothing could be done about the parking because it was a sponsored event. At 9 a.m. the officer mentions to me that a car just arrived and filled the last saved parking spot on Colby.
If this is going to be the new rule for parking why would anyone show up at 4 a.m. to park on Colby? Just park your car the night before and put out chairs for all your friends and show up at 9 a.m. or later. This event has turned into a “good old boys club.” I, for one, will not attend this event in the future. I will also make it a point to tell others members of the car clubs I belong how unprofessional this was handled.
I think that the Seattle Rod-Tiques need to take lessons from the Greenwood Knights on how to run a car show. This situation would never occur at the Greenwood Car Show in Seattle, which had over 700 entries in last year’s show. The good old boys need to consider others who do get up early enough to warrant a parking spot on Colby and not be the bullies of Cruzin’ to Colby.
