LACEY – Bainbridge rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Edmonds-Woodway got two runs in the top of the eighth and held on to defeat the Spartans 7-6 in the Warriors’ back-and-forth 3A state opener.
Edmonds-Woodway will play three-time defending state champion Kamiakin in a 3A state quarterfinal game at 4 p.m.
An RBI double by the Warriors’ Heidi Davis broke the tie in the eighth and then Davis scored what proved to be the game-winning run on an error.
Kendra Cooper was 2-for-4 with a two-run triple for Edmonds-Woodway (17-8).
