We, the members of the Monroe Garden Club, give a big thank you to all who came to our plant sale fundraiser on the Saturday before Mother’s Day. Garden art, blueberry, raspberry and tomato plants, plus small Mother’s Day gifts disappeared quickly, followed by a variety of trees, shrubs, perennials and herb and vegetable starts.
We want to also thank those who donated plants for the sale, including Garden Club members, community members, and the following local businesses: Ben Franklin Crafts and Frames, Monroe; Falling Water Gardens, Monroe; Fancy Fronds, Gold Bar; Machias Nursery, Snohomish; Storm Lake Growers, Monroe; West Coast Nursery, Monroe; and Woods Creek Nursery, Monroe.
The Monroe Garden Club was formed in the early 1950s by people sharing an interest in growing beauty in the form of plants. Today our 80 club members are still enthusiastic about the magic of growing plants. The aim of our club is to promote the love of gardening in Monroe. To that end, one of our favorite projects is providing and planting flowers in the large planters and hanging baskets that beautify downtown Monroe. Some of our members offer their gardening expertise to help grow produce at the Julia V. Morris food bank/community garden. Our most important project is to donate a scholarship each year to a deserving Monroe High School graduate who is pursuing a career in horticulture.
