OLYMPIA — Clashing weekend protests in downtown Olympia devolved into what one witness described as mayhem.
The Olympia reports that the fights, smashed windows and slashed tires began when about 150 people, some masked, showed up to counter-protest a planned gathering of white supremacists.
Olympia resident Rob Smith says he saw things get ugly when the two groups met on Saturday night.
He says the white supremacists eventually fled, but the counter-protesters picked up metal chairs from a restaurant’s outdoor seating area and flung them at trucks occupied by the supremacists.
Smith and witness Katie Delgado say many people were carrying baseball bats and some were masked.
