EVERETT — One of the Everett Fire Department’s longtime leaders is leaving the department.
Assistant Chief Bob Downey recently went on medical leave. He is “now off work and will be retiring from the department in September,” Fire Chief Murray Gordon wrote in a recent memo to crews.
Downey served Everett for 32 years, rising to assistant chief of operations, the department’s second-highest rank.
Bob Edgley will serve as the interim chief of operations until September, Murray wrote in the memo. Edgley started in that role Monday.
Ric Cade will serve as the acting assistant chief of training starting Thursday.
Decisions on permanent appointments are expected later this year.
