On Saturday, starting at 9 a.m., crews are going to be working on the North Mountain Lookout near Darrington.
They will be replacing cross beams that help support the structure, so those who are comfortable up off the ground would be especially helpful. But there will be other tasks for those who prefer to be more grounded.
If you’re interested in helping, call Roselie Rasmussen of Friends of North Mountain Lookout at 360-436-0686 or email info@northmountainlookout.com.
The group is working to restore the lookout and turn it into a rental. The lookout is one of the few in the state that you can drive to. It offers stunning views, including a great look at Glacier Peak and Mount Baker on a clear day.
I went up recently and was lucky enough to get to climb up and take a look around. It’s a stunning view, and well worth the trip.
