Every day that drags on in the ongoing contract talks the Seahawks are having with Russell Wilson are bringing back painful memories of the departure of Alex Rodriguez. Every day it is making his claim of a team-first attitude seem insincere and quite frankly, very phony.
To me it is apparent that the Seahawks are prepared to offer Mr. Wilson a very fair yearly salary, but he obviously won’t budge on his stance and desire to become the highest paid player in the NFL. He is too smart for people to not realize that could be a be a major roadblock in our organization’s quest to continue and sustain our perennial championship status.
If he continues to hold the proverbial gun to our franchise’s head and demands that highest-paid-player status, well, I say we move forward without him. It would be a tremendous loss and he would be irreplaceable, but to me morals and sticking to the image of our model organization is too important. One player can’t win a Super Bowl for a team, even if that is a dynamic and electric once-in-a-lifetime franchise quarterback like Russell Wilson clearly is.
The ball is in your court, Russell Wilson. Please make the right decision and buck the trend of the greedy professional athlete who cares more about money than being on a team that competes for a championship every season.
