EVERETT — The Boise Hawks had an epic meltdown, and the Everett AquaSox graciously accepted the gift.
Everett scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, despite managing just a single base hit, as the Sox were handed a 10-7 victory Monday night at Everett Memorial Stadium.
Everett headed into the bottom of the seventh trailing 7-5. Braden Bishop led the inning off with a double, but then the rest of the rally came courtesy of the Hawks. Relief pitchers Alec Kenilvort and Justin Lawrence combined to walk four of the next five batters, with bases-loaded walks issued to Alex Jackson and Drew Jackson tying the score.
When the Hawks received a potential inning-ending double-play ball to stem the bleeding, Boise second baseman Luis Castro dropped the relay, then threw the ball away. Two runs scored on the play to give the Sox the lead. Another run scored on Yordi Calderon’s sacrifice fly as Everett went ahead 10-7.
Drew Jackson scored three runs and Braden Bishop doubled twice to lead the Sox (9-3), who avoided losing back-to-back games for the first time this season. Reliever Kyle Wilcox earned the win, getting the final seven outs.
The seventh-inning follies spoiled a big day at the plate for Boise’s Yonathan Daza, who went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a homer and three RBI. Luis Castro also homered for the Hawks (5-7).
