MANSFIELD — State officials say a wildfire that has burned across nearly 5 1/2 square miles of sagebrush and grass near the town of Mansfield in central Washington is 50 percent contained and no longer threatens homes.
Earlier, Chief Deputy State Fire Marshal Bill Slosson said the fire that started Monday threatened three homes and a ranch.
Fire spokesman Ray Steiger says that threat has passed.
The state Emergency Management agency estimated containment Tuesday evening at 50 percent.
More than 100 people are fighting the fire about 40 miles north of Wenatchee. No injuries have been reported.
