Weekend best bets: Fourth of July, Jetty Island, camping, more

Red, white and blue: Fourth of July events are planned all around the county. Check out our list of parades, fireworks and more right here.

Beach life: Jetty Island Days begin for the season on Sunday. The ferry runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays, and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays at 10th Street and W. Marine View Drive, Everett. There is a $3 fee for parking. The ferry ride is free, although donations are accepted. Get more info here.

Go camping: If you want to get away from the heat, try a nice dense forest, a lake or a stream. Here are some ideas on how to get a last-minute camping spot.

Hike and learn: Starting this Saturday, rangers will lead interpretive hikes at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays at the Big Four Ice Caves. The trail is ADA accessible. Meet at the Big 4 picnic area, 14 miles east of the Verlot Public Service Center on the Mountain Loop Highway. Free, no reservations required. A Northwest Forest pass is required for parking. For more information call 360-691-7791.

More hiking: If you’d really like to escape the heat, go jump in a lake. Check out some suggestions for lakes that are perfect for a brisk swim here. Or check out some options for family-friendly hikes here.

Bring the family: Everett has a block party from 3 to 11 p.m. on Friday. There will be kids’ games, food trucks, live music and more. It’s free and kids under 10 can get a free hot dog and soda.

Go back in time: Car 55, the trolley at Lynnwood’s Heritage Park, at 19921 Poplar Way, is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Read all about it in an earlier story here.

For kids: Imagine Children’s Museum in Everett will be open on the Fourth of July. Kids can make a festive hat for the parade. Get more info here.
