Recently my wife and I received an invitation to the annual meeting of the Everett Museum of History, undoubtedly because of our donation toward the purchase of a computer system to catalogue relics from Everett and Snohomish County’s history.
We were given a friendly welcome and enjoyed a slide presentation of some of the artifacts in the collection. My wife and I are from two different towns in Western Washington and have lived in south Everett for more than 40 years. As non-natives, we do not have the connections to Everett’s past that many attending the meeting have. But one sad fact was glaringly apparent to us, that a city the size of Everett, with its colorful, fascinating history, does not have a permanent home for displaying the wonderful artifacts which are presently in storage around the area.
Another fact is that Everett is especially blessed to have a dedicated group of people who have a wide range of knowledge about this city and county’s history. They are an invaluable asset for the establishment of a permanent museum and the education of the public about the unique development of Everett from its earliest times.
We sincerely hope that Everett does not miss this grand opportunity, and that this dedicated group is successful in its quest to establish a permanent historical museum for all citizens to enjoy.
