Party: Start holiday early in Everett

A Downtown Everett Block Party is set for 3-11 p.m. Friday along Wetmore Avenue to raise money for The Everett 4th of July Fireworks Foundation. Free admission, and free hot dogs and pop for kids younger than 10.

There will be live bands, food trucks and a beer garden. The event is put on by the Snohomish Artist Guild with help from multiple sponsors.

Dash: 5k, carnival aid special-needs kids

The Determined Parents Foundation holds a 5k walk, run and roll followed by a carnival with bouncy houses, games and more, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. July 4 at Lake Tye Park, 14964 Fryelands Blvd., Monroe. Proceeds benefit the group’s efforts to provide supplemental financial support to special-needs kids and their families.

Admission is free. Food and games are minimal costs. The kids dash is free, while adults pay $35 to $45 for the 5k.

Volunteer: Hospital gift shops need help

The nonprofit Providence General Children’s Association is “in dire need” of volunteers at the Providence Regional Medical Center Pacific and Colby campus gift shops.

Volunteers are needed for four-hour shifts, day or evening, one or more times per month. Gift shop proceeds benefit Northwest children in need. Volunteers must complete hospital volunteer forms, take a TB test, undergo a background check and receive training.

The gift shop at EvergreenHealth Monroe also needs reliable volunteers. Three-hour shifts are available. The gift shop is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays.

Work: Clean up problem area at school

A special cleanup project is set for 9 a.m.-1 p.m. July 11 at Marshall Elementary School, 4407 116th St. NE in Marysville.

About 20 volunteers are needed to help clean up the northwest wooded corner of the school grounds. The section has been a problem area, with homeless encampments and drug activity.

Volunteers will help take out overgrown grasses, blackberry, Scotch broom and other plants. Parking will be available at the school and on 44th Drive NE. Bring gloves, eye protection and heavy gardening gear. Kids are welcome to play on the playground while adults and teens work.

Whack: Street hockey tourney coming up

A street hockey tournament is set for all day July 11 on the tennis courts at Clark Park, 2400 Lombard Ave. in Everett. Play or cheer on your favorite team. There will be food, music, games and festival atmosphere.

Teams are invited to register; the fee is $140.

The tournament, featuring round-robin games with a single-game elimination playoff, is organized by the Everett Silvertips and Everett Parks and Recreation.
