EVERETT — The Hillsboro Hops rallied in the top of the ninth inning to tie it, then won it in the 10th as they knocked off the Everett AquaSox 8-7 Saturday night at Everett Memorial Stadium.
Everett put together a three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh to snap a 4-4 tie and take a seemingly-secure three-run lead into the ninth. However, the Sox’s bullpen couldn’t hold it, with pinch hitter Fernery Ozuna smacking a bases-loaded, two-run double to right-center to tie the score for the Hops and send the game to extra innings.
Then in the top of the 10th Everett left fielder Corey Simpson, after a long run, dropped Stephen Dezzi’s fly ball for a two-base error. Dane McFarland followed by lining a double to center to bring Dezzi home with what proved to be the winning run.
Dezzi finished 2-for-4 with a homer and three runs to lead Hillsboro (9-8). Trevor Matsui also homered for the Hops.
Alex Jackson went 3-for-5 with two doubles and three runs to pace Everett (11-6), which lost back-to-back games for the first time this season.
