VANCOUVER, Wash. — A firework that got tipped over sparked a fire that destroyed a pickup and burned the outside of a house in east Vancouver.
The Columbian reports that the firework was knocked over Friday night while it was going off. It ignited a bush and spread to the pickup and the house.
Vancouver Fire Marshal Heidi Scarpelli says the total damage was about $35,000.
The person who lit the firework was fined $250 for lighting it outside the city’s curfew limits. Fireworks were only legal in Vancouver on Saturday from 9 a.m. to midnight.
The Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office has issued 21 fireworks citations for curfew violations since starting patrols on June 28.
