Volunteers needed to count clams
The Pacific Shellfish Institute is seeking volunteers to help with a clam population survey at Kayak Point Regional County Park, 15610 Marine Drive in Stanwood. The survey is scheduled for Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers should plan to dig holes, carry buckets of water or collect and record information about clams. Staff can teach new volunteers about identifying types of clams and other shellfish. Boots and gloves are available for volunteers who don’t bring their own.

Mobile mammograms offered in Monroe and Sultan: Health experts at the Evergreen Breast Health Center recommend women get an annual mammogram screening breast exam beginning at age 40. The 3D mobile mammography unit will be making stops in Monroe and Sultan throughout the summer.
It will be at EvergreenHealth Primary Care, 14841 179th Avenue SE in Monroe from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 10 and Sept. 14.
It’ll be at EvergreenHealth Primary Care, 615 W. Stevens Ave. in Sultan from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 28, Aug. 28 and Sept. 22.
Marysville seeks applicants for tourism grant funding
Nonprofits interested in receiving grant funding for projects that enhance and promote tourism in the city of Marysville are encouraged to submit applications for the city’s 2016 Hotel/Motel Tax Grant Program. The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17.
Projects are funded on a reimbursement basis, and awards typically go to projects that help encourage the city’s tourism market. The program is open to any qualified private nonprofit entity that can demonstrate an ability to complete its proposed project. Nonprofits can include historical societies, art groups, chambers of commerce, museums, galleries, youth organizations and service clubs.
