Cascade teen is Seafair Ambassador

Cascade High School junior Alexandra Cizek has been selected as a 2015 Seafair Ambassador by the Seafair Foundation. She was selected based on an application and interview. She is the only student from a Snohomish County school on the 10-person roster of 2015 Seafair Ambassadors.

Chosen students each receive $1,000 college scholarships, a Seafair mentor and an exchange trip to Kobe, Japan, among other opportunities as they represent the Seattle-based festival over the next year.

“I’m really looking forward to experiencing a different culture with the exchange students from our sister city,” Cizek said.

Sultan Elementary’s ‘lunch lady’ honored

Sultan Elementary School food services worker Lisa Parker was chosen as the June Sodexo Experience Award Winner.

Parker loves being a “lunch lady,” as she calls herself. She knows the names of all 550 students at Sultan Elementary and thanks each of the students every day as they come through the line. At every holiday she will dye food that holiday’s colors. And she is quietly courteous about letting students know when their meal funds are running low, putting a personal note on their ID.

Skoog created a petal skirt out of burlap coffee bean bags, stuffed it with recycled newspaper and made a corset of recycled curtains. Skoog will attend the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles in the fall.
