Edmonds City Council incumbent Lora Petso will face challenger Neil Tibbott on the Nov. 3 general-election ballot.
The two candidates recently sent statements introducing themselves to voters.
Here are their statements in the order their names will appear on the November ballot and in the voters’ pamphlet:
Lora Petso: It has been an honor to serve on the Edmonds City Council.
I am presently our most experienced councilmember, with nine years of service on the Edmonds City Council and 20 years of service as an election official. I have served on many council committees, as Council president pro-tem, and as Council president.
My service includes:
- Supporting our building-height limits and protecting views
- Saving us millions of dollars through debt refinancing
- Working to develop Hickman Park and Hazel Miller Park
- Supporting our critical areas, including our streams, lakes, Puget Sound and the marsh
Four years ago, I pledged to provide straight talk, to not be pressured by special interests, and to work for all Edmonds residents. I kept those promises.
I am a graduate of Whitman College (Economics) and the UW law school. My husband and I have lived and run our business in the Edmonds area for more than 25 years. We raised our family here, and we are now enjoying sharing Edmonds with our grandsons. We are about to commence our 25th year as volunteer chess coaches at Sherwood Elementary School in south Edmonds!

Neil Tibbott: For more than a decade I have worked with others to help make our community a better place to live and run a business. As chair of the Planning Board I am committed to a process that is open and inclusive that defines a problem clearly and seeks viable solutions. Consequently, many of our final recommendations reflect significant input from citizens followed by Board deliberation and strong consensus. I believe the citizens of Edmonds want their elected and appointed representatives to work together through a vigorous process and then implement policies that serve the entire city.
It’s not easy to find consensus on tough issues like planning for growth and funding for essential services. That is why I’m running for the City Council. I am committed to constructive teamwork that gets things done that serve us now and well into the future.
I am proud to have support from:
- Edmonds Police Officers
- The Firefighters, Local 1828
- The Washington Conservation Voters
- State Representative Strom Peterson
- Edmonds Mayor Dave Earling
- Former Mayors Gary Haakenson and Laura Hall
- Councilmembers Diane Buckshnis &Tom Mesaros
- Current and former Planning Board Members Phil Lovell, Dan Robles, Janice Freeman, William Ellis, Bruce Witenberg
- …and many more.

I would be honored to have your support.
