South Everett weekend shootings: 1 gang-related, 1 drive-by

EVERETT — Gunfire over the weekend has led to two separate police investigations.

No one was hurt in either case.

The first incident occurred in south Everett and is being investigated by Everett police; the second occurred south of Everett. Detectives from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.

Everett police received several calls around 7:15 p.m. Saturday about shots being fired between the 1500 and 1800 blocks of W Casino Road.

“This is gang-related and it is all stemming from an incident that occurred earlier this month,” Everett police Sgt. Maryjane Hacker said.

Three juveniles were taken into custody and booked into the Denney Juvenile Justice Center. Their ages were not immediately available.

One was booked for investigation of first-degree assault in connection with a confrontation that occurred June 6, Hacker said.

Another was arrested for investigation of unlawfully possessing two firearms.

The third was arrested for investigation of obstructing a police officer and possessing marijuana, which under state law is still a crime for juveniles.

The intended victims drove off; the suspected shooters left on foot. An initial search with a police dog from the Lynnwood Police Department was unsuccessful.

While police were collecting evidence, the suspects emerged from a swampy area where they had been hiding, Hacker said.

Multiple shell casings were recovered from the scene.

In a separate case, the Snohomish County deputies are investigating a drive-by shooting that occurred Sunday night. No suspects had been identified as of Monday.

The incident was reported around 11:15 p.m. when people living at the mobile home park at the 12600 block of E Gibson Road called 911 to report that they had heard gunshots, sheriff’s office spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.

Deputies on scene saw two bullet holes in the side of a home and recovered several bullets and bullet casings from nearby, Ireton said.

Witnesses said they saw two males and two females fleeing the area immediately after the gunshots were heard. All were described as appearing to be Hispanic.

Multiple people who live at the residence gave statements that they did not know who had shot at the home, or any motivation for the shooting, Ireton said.

A police dog and patrol units searched the area for several hours but were unable to locate or identify any suspects.
