Week Twelve - FINAL

Starting Goal: My goal for this challenge is to lose 25-30 lbs, get in shape, and develop a workout / nutrition plan that I can maintain for the rest of my life. Do you feel that you accomplished your goal? Yes. My main goals in this competition were to lose weight (I’ve lost 25-30 lbs), get in shape(went from size 40 pants to loose 36), and lower my blood pressure. I have worked hard to balance my diet, exercise and schedule, and develop habits that I could maintain after the challenge was over. My other goal was to impress my son Jack, who was worried that I was fat. This last week, when seeing me without a shirt on he said “Wow, you are getting skinny!” High praise from a nine year old. What are your goals for the future? My goals for the future are to continue with my workouts, lose 10 more pounds, and train for either the senior Olympics or a triathlon. I also want to encourage other people to develop better and healthier choices for their lives, while staying healthy for my family. What would you tell someone starting their own Healthy Challenge? To set reasonable and attainable goals. Start off slow and build up, changing your routine often enough not to get bored and stick with it!!!

Week Eleven

What did you find most challenging this week? Balancing church schedules, school schedules and workouts. It's tricky sometimes. What accomplishment were you most proud of this week? Looking in the mirror and thinking “not bad,” almost there! I actually thought a couple of my strength training classes could have been harder . . . .(don't tell the instructors). What are your goals for next week? Push hard, workout harder. Sum up your thoughts on this week of Healthy Challenge. It's great to develop healthy habits, push through the pain to a point of enjoying it. I actually enjoyed the pain! That's a great place to be!!!

Week Ten

What did you find most challenging this week? Getting up at 4:30am to make the 5am class. It's nice to get my workout done early. Adding more weight to my lifting was a pain because I got comfortable with the weights I was lifting. What accomplishment were you most proud of this week? Add more weight to my lifting and pushing through. What are your goals for next week? To push myself harder, workout longer, eat less this week and peel off a few more pounds!! Sum up your thoughts on this week of Healthy Challenge. I'm feeling great, loving workouts, making new friends, sweating and grunting together . . .what more could I ask for? Thank s to The Herald, the YMCA & Valley General Hospital. It's been great so far.

Week Nine

What did you find most challenging this week? Too many food “festivals,” special occasions and events. It was really hard to deal with this week. What accomplishment were you most proud of this week? Wearing new pants a size down. It felt great! What are your goals for next week? Kick it up a notch . . . work out harder, increase my weights and push through. Sum up your thoughts on this week of Healthy Challenge. Discipline, discipline, discipline. It used to be difficult to get back on my workout schedule after an injury or being sick, or a couple of days of binging, but this challenge has really given me motivation to get back to my schedule and goals. Thanks!

Week Eight

What did you find most challenging this week? Keeping up my workout after throwing my back out. What accomplishment were you most proud of this week? Jogging/speed walking a six an a half mile course through the mountains in Oregon. It was beautiful weather, great scenery and a great workout! What are your goals for next week? Kick it up a notch and workout harder! Sum up your thoughts on this week of Healthy Challenge. Consistency is difficult with family schedules and church schedules, but it's great to have something motivating and pushing us to go on.

Week Seven

What did you find most challenging this week?
Eating right at a men's retreat. It was a weekend of incredible meals and a mountain of snacks. I just had to make good choices and walk past the snack table (most of the time).
What accomplishment were you most proud of this week?
I guess it was nice to hear from several people that they noticed a difference in my body/weight. It was encouraging.
What are your goals for next week?
Keep the pace . . .the finish line for this challenge is in sight.
Sum up your thoughts on the 7th week of Healthy Challenge.
Discipline, discipline, discipline. Physical strength takes mental strength to achieve. I'm feeling great!

Week Six

What did you find most challenging this week? I worked out of town most of the week and had a hard time keeping up with my regular routines. What accomplishment were you most proud of this week? My eating habits are much better with less of an effort. Many of my “cravings” are gone and I feel really great most of the time. What are your goals for next week? Keep on track, lose a couple more pounds and to stay focused. Sum up your thoughts on this week of Healthy Challenge. I am really enjoying this challenge. We're at the halfway mark and I'm lovin' it.

Week Five

What did you find most challenging this week? Trying to breath. I was miserably sick from Tuesday pm to Saturday. I worked out on Saturday morning and took a class but by the end of the week I was still fairly congested. What accomplishment were you most proud of this week? coming out of five days of being sick with the attitude of jumping back in this week. What are your goals for next week? Get back on my program and drinking lots of fluids. Sum up your thoughts on this week of Healthy Challenge. I was fairly bummed out and felt like I lost some momentum this week. It's hard to work through sickness and jump right back in, but I'm excited about feeling good this week.

Week Four

What did you find most challenging this week? I tweaked my knee last week and have had to be careful with it. Then I had an issue with my right elbow. Wow! I'll be 50 this Saturday. What accomplishment were you most proud of this week? Finding a way to workout without doing serious harm to my knee or elbow. I pushed through and stuck with my eating program. Also, not gorging myself at my “Surprise 50th” birthday party. What are your goals for next week? Ericka is going to “shake-up” my workout and try to kill me . . . or at least the parts that Kelly hasn't already annihilated! Keep it up and lose 3-5 more pounds. Sum up your thoughts on this week of Healthy Challenge. It is still an exciting venture. I'm not loving every “minute” but am really pleased at the results so far. Still so grateful to my sponsors!

Week Three

What did you find most challenging this week? Not “over-snacking”. It was really difficult to keep myself from having snack attacks. What accomplishment were you most proud of this week? I've increased my jog time and have found a four mile jog that includes my children following me on their bicycles. It was great fun having them along. What are our goals for next week? Keep up with workouts, increase my “daily routines” suggestions from trainer, to lose 3-5 lbs. Sum up your thoughts on the third week of Healthy Challenge. It's still exciting to be a part of this challenge. I feel so much better, am starting to get more energy, am actually starting to enjoy my “cardio” workouts. I am very grateful to have been chosen as a participant!!!

Week Two

What did you find most challenging this week? Sticking with my low calorie intake. There were a couple of invitations out to eat; it was difficult making good choices. What accomplishment were you most proud of this week? Going through Kelli's “Boot Camp” workout at 5:00am. It was really a tough class and probably what you would expect from Boot Camp. Also, I increased my jog time. What are your goals for next week? To intensify my workouts and to get a little more sleep. Sum up your thoughts on this week of Healthy Challenge. I really enjoyed the workouts, but the constant monitoring of calories is tough. I feel very honored to have been chosen for this program and want to glean as much as possible from this opportunity.

Week One

What did you find most challenging this week? 1. Working my schedule out with workouts and family time. 2. My second weight training session: my muscles were so sore after my first workout it was tough to push through. 3. Push-ups, my arms don't like them, they want to rebel. What accomplishment were you most proud of this week? Getting started with weight training program. My triceps were killing me, but, it was great to push through and complete. What are your goals for next week? Push myself harder. Get to bed earlier so I can make the 5:00am classes and finish my workout early in the morning. Sum up your thoughts on this week of Healthy Challenge. It was really a lot of fun getting started and I enjoyed the whole process. I'm sure the “excitement” will wane and it will be a bit more difficult, but I am really looking forward to the next 11 weeks!
