(No heading)
His arrogant demeanor offended many.

He made kindergarten mistakes
First, the hit piece he did on Mallahan was really, really mean. It went beyond a simple contrast and into the realm of personal attack.

A lot of times candidates close to the action don't see that line, but the voters do. Sometimes the candidate **** the hitting can't see the difference, and sometimes the candidate getting hit thinks a fair shot is a personal attack when it isn't.

Talk about how you disagree with your opponent or his record? Fine. Saying "Joe don't know Jack" and making fun of how stupid your opponent is...that's crossing the line.

Second, I heard one of his radio spots where Nickels said "I don't we've made some mistakes, BUT..."

You never, ever put that thought into people's heads. You can say "we have met and overcome many challenges, and we're better for it." But you never say "we've made mistakes BUT I still want you to vote for me."

In doing so, he's asking people to OVERLOOK his enormous faults and elect him anyway. That's in sharp contrast to sharing why you are the best choice.

In terms of the election, those two self-inflicted wounds were much worse than any errors he made during his tenure as mayor.
