SNOHOMISH — A large fire destroyed a house near Snohomish early Monday morning, displacing at least two residents, according to fire officials.
Around 2:30 a.m., the fire broke out in the 11700 block of 92nd Street SE, east of Snohomish, Fire District 4 Deputy Chief Jason Hodkinson said. 911 callers reported hearing explosions coming from the house before it was engulfed in flames.
Nineteen fire crews from eight different districts responded. When firefighters entered the first floor of the house, there was an “overwhelming amount of belongings” impeding them from navigating with their hose, Hodkinson said. The firefighters reported hearing explosions and seeing ammunition inside the house, and exited because they felt it no longer safe, according to the fire district.
Crews extinguished the flames using water tenders because there are no fire hydrants in the area, fire authorities said. It took about 90 minutes to contain the flames.
The fire destroyed the entire second floor and the first floor sustained significant smoke and water damage, according to the fire district.
The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office was investigating the cause of the fire Monday.
